Seaworld Offered $1 Million To Free Tilikum

If you haven’t seen the “Blackfish” documentary on Netflix, I highly recommend it. It’s brought a lot of negative attention to Seaworld and their Orca shows. The documentary focuses on the captivity of Tilikum, an Orca that was captured back in 1983 and has been held in captivity ever since. He is also the cause of 3 deaths since being held in captivity.

According to TMZ, Steven Dunn who is the CEO of the toy company “Munchkin” is offering $1,000,000 to help fund an ocean sanctuary for the Orca’s currently being held in captivity. He sent a letter to Seaworld and according to that letter he wants to build a sea pen in natural coastal waters where whales can have more freedom but still be seen by visitors. Dunn also states in his letter that he wants Tilikum to be it’s first occupant. You can read the full letter HERE. Seaworld recently announced that the Orca shows would come to an end in 2016 and a new “experience” would be launched in 2017 but there’s no word if this offer has anything to do with it.
