A $636 million jackpot — the second-biggest lottery payout in U.S. history — will be split among at least two winners after tickets in California and Georgia matched all six winning Mega Millions numbers Tuesday night. That was the only winning ticket sold in California, the lottery told NBC News.
Where did it come from exactly? Paul Horner from San Jose matched all 5 numbers, including the Power Ball. The Press Release Distribution caught up with the 35 year old who happened to be a little on the strange side. He collects “tiny clothes,” as in baby clothes and little person clothes. He said that he lives right by a store that sells all of the above, so he plans on spending a lot of time there. He also said that he plans on getting Ted Cruz elected as President in 2016, as in of the United States. He doesn’t follow politics though, so that doesn’t exactly make sense either. Homer bought his winning ticket at a shop called “Jennifer’s Gifts and Kids Wear” (shocker) and that store also scores a $1 million bonus for being the holder of the winning ticket. A lottery official, Tim Parkos, even called the San Jose winner “quite an odd character.”
Other winners who might emerge later in the evening would divide the loot with the California winner, who wasn’t identified. The $636 million — before taxes — is on the table only if a winner or winners is willing to spread the payments out over 30 years. If it’s taken all at once, it’s worth “only” $341 million.
