A Northern California couple out walking their dog on their property stumbled across a modern-day bonanza: A treasure trove of rare, mint-condition gold coins buried in the shadow of an old tree estimated to be worth $10 million!
According to CBS News, the 1,427 coins, dating from 1847 to 1894, have been authenticated, with some so rare they could fetch $1 million per piece even though the coins’ total face value is about $27,000. The middle-aged couple who found the coins have chosen to remain anonymous, in part to avoid a gold rush on their rural property.
